    • How to get to GESIS Cologne

      In Cologne, our GESIS Training courses take place at Unter Sachsenhausen 6-8.

      By air

      Cologne Bonn Airport serves various destinations. Regional trains (S19) connect the airport with Cologne Main Station (travel time about 20 min). Taxis are available in front of the airport.

      By rail

      Colognes's main train station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) is a well-connected ICE junction. GESIS is only about 5 minutes' walk (500m) from the main station. Leaving the station from the main entrance, walk over the square in front of the station (“Bahnhofsvorplatz”), heading right towards the street called "An den Dominikanern". Keep walking straight ahead and follow "An den Dominikanern", which turns into "Unter Sachsenhausen“. At the crossroad "Tunisstraße", you will see the GESIS building in front of you on the right. Please use the entrance on “Unter Sachsenhausen".

      By car

      GESIS can be reached via Autobahn A1, A3, A4, A57, A59 and A555. Finding a parking place free of charge and close to the venue may prove difficult. However, there are several parking garages (chargeable) within short walking distance.

      Flat-rate ticket valid for an entire month on all local and regional public transport in Germany (not valid on EC/IC/ICE trains). 49€ per month. Renews automatically!

      Library

      The GESIS Library collects reference material relevant to social and information science. You can search the GESIS library catalogue at https://www.gesis.org/en/institute/departments/knowledge-transfer/library.

      Please contact a member of the GESIS Training team if you want to use the library.

      Working spaces

      There are a couple of desks in the GESIS Library that you can use to work at outside of course hours.

      Wireless Internet Access

      Wi-Fi is available in the entire building and the courtyard. The login details are available at the registration desk and in the course rooms.

      We also provide eduroam access for participants whose organizations participate in the eduroam program.

      Lockers

      There are no lockers available in the GESIS building. Please leave your luggage/bags at your hotel/accommodation.

      Accessibility

      All GESIS Training courses take place on the ground floor of the building and are wheel-chair accessible (via a ramp). An accessible toilet is available on the basement floor (via elevator).

    • Culture and sightseeing in Cologne

      Cologne is famous for its gothic Cathedral and has a vivid arts & culture scene. The local tourist office has compiled a wealth of information about museums, events, and sights at cologne-tourism.com. They also offer an interactive city map.

      Printed brochures are available at the Cologne Tourist Information Center in front of Cologne Cathedral.

      In Mannheim, our GESIS Training courses take place at B6, 4-5.

      By air

      Frankfurt Airport is a hub for numerous airlines. From Frankfurt Airport an Intercity Express (ICE) train leaves at least once an hour to Mannheim (travel time about 32 minutes). Taxis are available in front of the airport.

      By rail and public transport

      Mannheim's main train station (Mannheim Hauptbahnhof) is a well-connected ICE junction.

      You can take the following bus/tram lines to GESIS:

      • Bus line 60 (direction Pfeifferswörth), exit: Universität West
      • Bus line 65 (direction Popakademie), exit: Universität West 
      • Tram line 1 (direction Schönau), 5 (direction Heidelberg), exit: Schloss  

      You can find information on the timetables here or on Google Maps. If you don’t mind a little walk, GESIS is also about 20 minutes walking distance from the main station.

      Next to the main station, you will also find a VRN-Nextbike rental station. Here you can rent a bicycle via app. A drop-off station is right next to GESIS in B6 at the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Mannheim in A5. It's another minute's walk from here.

      Around the main station you will also usually find e-scooters from the companies Bolt and Tier.

      By car

      You can reach us by car via the A6, Mannheim Mitte exit. Finding a parking place free of charge and close to the venue may prove difficult. However, there are several parking garages (chargeable) close to GESIS.
