GESIS Training is committed to providing a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone at its events. We value friendly and constructive interaction among all participants, lecturers, and staff, and we want the learning and teaching atmosphere to be characterized by respect, appreciation, trust, and the recognition of diversity.

We therefore ask everyone to follow these basic rules of communication both online and offline.

  • Keep your tone factual, polite, and respectful. We do not accept insults, any form of discrimination, personal attacks, or inappropriate comments. Formulate criticism constructively and criticize ideas, not people.
  • Forgive other participants’ mistakes and be patient and compassionate of all learners in the course. Share your knowledge by offering help to participants who may need it.
  • In all your interactions, remember that on the other end there is a person who has feelings and can be hurt by what and how you interact with them. Never post anything online that you would not say to the person face-to-face.
  • Do not comment on personal appearance or assumed or known reasons why a person chooses to participate in person, via video, audio, or other means – seriously or in jest.
  • Avoid dominating the microphone or airtime. In a virtual meeting, mute your microphone when not speaking.
  • Refrain from any political, religious, or commercial advertising.
  • In hybrid events, do not favor those participating in person over those participating virtually. In virtual events, do not favor those participating by video over those participating by audio only.
  • Unless otherwise stated, GESIS Training events are not recorded. Do not make audio or video recordings of any parts of the training event and do not distribute audio or video recordings of the event via social media or any other means.
